Power of a Woman, Eleanor of Aquitaine
Eleanor Aquitaine Portrait
Around 1152, a stonemason carved Eleanor of Aquitaine's head with that of her second husband, the future Henry II. She was thirty. Artist Duncan Long has transformed stone to flesh for "Power of a Woman" adding the blue eyes from a contemporary description. The Cloisters in New York houses the original sculpture.
